Collection: Carrier Differential

Browse our inventory of used OEM carrier differentials and differential assemblies for front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive, 4WD, and AWD vehicles — sourced from US-based salvage facilities. Every unit is mileage-verified, fluid-inspected, and confirmed for gear ratio and configuration before listing. Every carrier differential we sell carries a 90-day warranty from confirmed delivery. Free shipping on all orders.

What Is a Carrier Differential and Why Does It Fail?

The differential carrier is the housing assembly that contains the ring gear, pinion gear, spider gears, and side gears that allow the wheels on the same axle to rotate at different speeds during cornering. Without a functioning differential, both wheels would be forced to rotate at the same speed — causing tyre scrub, understeer, and drivetrain binding through every turn.

Differential failure is most commonly caused by fluid contamination, low fluid level, or exceeding the unit's torque or load rating. Symptoms include a whining or howling noise that changes with vehicle speed, a clunking noise when accelerating from a stop, or vibration felt through the floor. On AWD vehicles, a failed rear differential is one of the most common causes of drivetrain binding and the associated tyre wear and handling instability.

💧 Fluid Inspected

Every differential is drained and inspected before listing. Clean amber fluid with no metallic debris confirms healthy ring, pinion, and spider gear condition. Contaminated units are rejected from our inventory.

📋 Ratio Verified

Gear ratio is verified and documented on every listing — 3.23, 3.31, 3.55, 3.73, 4.10, and so on. A ratio mismatch between axles causes constant drivetrain binding and rapid wear on adjacent components.

🔩 Housing Checked

We inspect every carrier housing for cracks, stripped mounting points, and damaged bearing bores before listing. No structurally compromised units enter our inventory regardless of mileage.

Popular Differential Applications We Stock

Toyota & Lexus Rear Differentials

Rear carrier differentials for Toyota RAV4, Highlander, 4Runner, Tacoma, Tundra, Sienna, and Lexus GX and LX. Toyota's rear differentials are among the most reliable in the mass market. We stock both open and limited-slip variants — confirm your configuration and gear ratio by VIN before ordering. The Nissan Armada and Infiniti QX56 front differential carrier (ratio 3.357) is also a frequently requested listing.

Honda & Acura Rear Differentials

Rear axle carrier differentials for Honda CR-V, Pilot, Passport, Ridgeline AWD, and Acura MDX and RDX. Honda's rear differential units are compact, reliable, and very well-represented in the used market. The rear differential on Honda's AWD crossovers is the reactive engagement unit — always confirm AWD variant before ordering.

Cadillac, GM & Chevrolet Differentials

Front and rear differential carriers for Cadillac CTS, SRX, STS, Chevrolet Silverado, Tahoe, Suburban, GMC Sierra and Yukon, and Cadillac Escalade. GM differentials include open, limited-slip (G80 Locker), and electronic locking variants — always confirm the exact configuration by RPO code or VIN decode.

Nissan & Infiniti Differentials

Front and rear differential carriers for Nissan Armada, Titan, Pathfinder, Murano, and Infiniti QX56, QX80, FX, and EX. Nissan's truck-based SUV differentials are heavy-duty and long-lived. Confirm front vs. rear, gear ratio, and AWD vs. 4WD configuration before ordering.

Ford & Jeep Rear Differentials

Ford 8.8-inch and Dana 44 rear differentials for Explorer, F-150, and Mustang. Jeep Dana 44 and Dana 30 front and rear carriers for Grand Cherokee and Wrangler. The Dana 44 is strongly preferred over the Dana 35 for Grand Cherokee applications — always confirm which axle your vehicle has before ordering.

Critical Fitment Checks Before Ordering

Differentials are among the most specification-sensitive components in any drivetrain. A unit that physically bolts in but has the wrong gear ratio or wrong LSD configuration will cause immediate and expensive damage. Always confirm all of the following before ordering:

  • Gear ratio: Must match the opposite axle exactly — even a small ratio mismatch (e.g. 3.55 vs. 3.73) causes constant binding, vibration, and wear on the transfer case and driveshaft on AWD and 4WD vehicles
  • Open vs. limited-slip vs. locking: These use different internal gear sets and are not interchangeable. Confirm by RPO code, VIN decode, or by removing the fill plug and observing whether both wheels turn together when one is lifted
  • Spline count on axle shafts: Different gear ratios within the same platform sometimes use different spline counts on the axle shaft flange. Confirm spline count matches your existing axle shafts
  • Front vs. rear: Always specify which axle you need — front and rear differentials are completely different assemblies even on the same vehicle
  • AWD vs. 4WD vs. RWD: These use different carrier designs, mounting configurations, and output shaft arrangements
⚠️ Always Replace Pinion and Axle Seals at Installation Input pinion seals and axle shaft seals should always be replaced when installing a used differential carrier — seal kits cost $30–$70 and prevent the most common post-installation leaks. Skipping this step on a used unit frequently results in gear oil leaks within the first few thousand miles that require full removal and reinstallation to address.
🔧 Fill With the Correct OEM-Spec Gear Oil Always fill the replacement differential with the exact manufacturer-specified gear oil — Toyota 75W-90 GL-5, Honda VTF (for rear diff), Ford 75W-140 synthetic, GM 75W-90. For limited-slip differentials, add the correct friction modifier additive — failure to do so causes chatter and premature clutch pack wear from the first drive cycle.
